Myofascial Release or also known as (Structural Integration) based on the theories of Dr. Ida Rolf, commonly known as Rolfing. MFR is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the fascial connective tissue restrictions to try and eliminate pain and restore motion. The main goal of Myofascial Release is to re-align the body with gravity. As your posture improves you may feel lightness in your body as opposed to gravity weighing you down allowing the body to be better balanced and organized creating an overall feeling of freedom and wholeness.
One-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which I use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy related to each client’s unique fascial restrictions. Each fascial treatment session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables me to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
EFFECTS OF TREATMENT
While myofascial release is gentle, it can have profound effects on the body tissues. While each client's response will be highly individual, certain common responses are often seen. Sometimes a client may leave their first treatment feeling like nothing happened. Later (even a day later), the effects of the treatment begin to manifest themselves.
Often there is soreness after treatment for several hours or perhaps a day. The discomfort is a result of the released tissues secreting lactic acid and other trapped metabolic wastes into the intercellular spaces where it can then be excreted via the body's normal pathways. The best way to help this process is by drinking extra water which helps flush toxins out of the body.
Frequently, remarkable improvement can be noted immediately during or after a treatment while for others improvement comes after the soreness. Other typical responses can include: lightheadedness or nausea, new pain in other areas of the body, and emotional responses such as joy or sadness all part of the body’s ability to heal.
Generally, acute cases are typically resolved with fewer treatments. The more chronic the problem, the longer it usually takes to bring lasting results. I will discuss your plan of care with you, and help you decide how often you should come for maximum benefit.
To help enhance your process, I will give you stretching and self-treatment exercises to do at home to maintain the gains realized during your treatment.
